Sewell House provides sheltered accommodation, but is not a Registered Care Home. Applicants must be in good general health, capable of looking after themselves and providing their own meals, except at midday. Residents should be reasonably mobile and able to look after their own flatlets. Arrangements may be made for domestic and personal help, after consultation with and agreement of the Warden. Residents must be capable of taking responsibility for their own medication. Small maintenance jobs are undertaken by our own handyman.
Guardian: Applicants are required to provide the name and contact details of a younger relative or friend who will act as one of the resident’s Guardians. For practical reasons, it would be preferable for this Guardian to live within a reasonable distance of Sewell House. We also ask for another Guardian to be appointed, who can be a relative or a friend. The Guardians are there to assume responsibility for the resident’s welfare and will be involved in decisions about appropriate future care, if necessary. The Guardians will be required to sign a document agreeing to this. Prior to an applicant being offered a flatlet they will be asked to visit Sewell House with either one or both of their Guardians for an assessment meeting.
Tenancy Agreement: Upon entering Sewell House the resident and one of their Guardians will sign an “Assured Shorthold Tenancy Agreement”; Sewell House will register the deposit paid by the resident with the Tenancy Deposit Scheme, and the resident will be given a certificate of this.
Charges: Monthly charges are payable in advance by Standing Order. A deposit of one month’s fees is required to reserve a room. This deposit is refundable on leaving Sewell House, subject to conditions.
Smoking: Please note that Sewell House and its environs are totally no smoking areas.
Pets: Unfortunately pets may not be kept by residents of Sewell House, but may be brought in by visitors; dogs must be kept on a lead in communal areas.
