Sewell House is warden-assisted, rented housing for independent living, and welcomes people of any faith or none.
The accommodation is in purpose-built flatlets, surrounded by almost an acre of landscaped gardens, and situated in a quiet residential area close to the centre of the village of Winscombe, North Somerset.
There are 26 self-contained flatlets [20 single; 6 double], arranged over two floors, each flatlet having its own fitted kitchen and en-suite facilities. The building is centrally heated throughout and the cost of heating, lighting and Council Tax is included in the rental charges. Each flatlet and all communal areas have emergency pull-cords. A warden is on duty in Sewell House between 9am and 6pm, each day. On call warden emergency cover is provided between 6pm-9.30pm with backup response provision from Carelink; the resident duty warden provides overnight emergency cover between 9.30pm and 9am.
Each flatlet has a fitted kitchen with an electric cooker, refrigerator and storage cupboards. The flatlets are carpeted and a built-in wardrobe is provided. Residents provide their own furniture, curtains, bedding and kitchen utensils.
All heating, lighting and decorating costs are included in the charges.
Each flatlet has a socket for a telephone [line rental and call charges to be paid by the resident] and a TV aerial socket.
Personal electrical equipment brought in to Sewell House will be tested for electrical safety [PAT certificate] by a qualified electrician, and all electrical equipment is checked annually. There is no additional charge for this service.
A block insurance policy for residents is in force providing contents and third party cover. The premium for this is included in the rental charge. At present [June 2019] contents cover is up to £8,000 with a limit of £1000 for a single item - as of June 2019. As these terms are subject to change, current details can be supplied on request.
